"Your turn" for rally

The council has apprbved temporary road closures which will allow the Wellington Car Club to hold a car rally on 4 April, despite an objection to the closures. Roads affected are: Fields Track/Whangaehu Valley Road, Lakes Road/Pakahi Road, Mid-

dle Road, and Oruakukura Road. A local resident, Ann McDonnell, objected to the closure, saying in her letter "Whangaehu Valley Road has been a target for car rallies over the last few years and I feel we have had 'our turn* and that it is time the car club took their rally elsewhere". She also expressed concern

with the way the rally was run and damage to roads they may have caused. "The staff who man the rally are not always pleasant to the local people," she stated. Cr Doug Bennett said he thought the rally should go ahead but that Mrs McDonnell' s concerns were valid. It was agreed that Mrs McDonnell should be approached and her concerns discussed, followed by contact with the car club to ensure disruption to the local residents is minimised.
