Security Support
• Why is it when we finally get a security firm established in our high crime area almost nobody supports it? We at Jcan City have just experienced our fourth break -in since October. Our latest being early New Year's Day moming, 16 days after our prcvious burglary. The police response was immcdiate. And for the care and concern from early morning helpers I am grateful. But remember our police aren't always at hand- they are forced to take leave, are restricted of manpower and hours where they can protect our properties. This is a matter that won't be resolved or change to our favour in the near future. We are limited. We in the Waimarino do have another protection enforcement. Thomas Mareikura and his security firm. Our local man was supported whole heartedly at the community meeting back in November and everyone nodded and agreed with what a great idea a security set-up was for our crime infested community. AsJanuary 1 1992, the number of businesses supporting him is near zilch. I pay $28 a fortnight for checks whether its on foot bicycle or vchicle. Come on businesses,- support him. You can't tell me he just doesn't notice your property being disturbed when out at peculiar hours He checks the whole town out! Give him a donation, fill his petrol tank, form a group together and work a roster system out where you are not just cashing in on the deal! He is unable to keep going if you don't support him. Come on you Ohakune businesses, we have to support Thomas. Raetihi are positive. They aren't giving up and the numbers hiring Thomas are still growing. Things just aren't going to be resolved in this area that quickly. We have a problem! Raetihi are on to it! We are all threatened by not knowing what will happen from one night to the next.
