From Lt Col Clive Sinclair Waiouru

1991 has been another year of substantial change within Defence as well as New Zealand, said Colonel Clive Sinclair, Commander of the Army Training Group in Waiouru. Despite the changes Waiouru's military population has remained reasonably static and on the 16 December two new units will establish themselves in the Camp. The arrival of the School of Military Intelligence and a section of 25 Engineer Support Squadron will only offset some of the

manpower losses Waiouru has sustained in recent years. One thing is certain, Waiouru will remain one of the Army's main training establishments and therefore will maintain its presence within the region. 1991 has also been another busy year for Waiouru despite a shrinking budget and cuts to manpower. 1992 will see no respite. Whilst Waiouru maintains a fairly constant workload from year to year it must be said that the wider community around Waiouru also shares in helping us to meet our commitments. Whether it be farmers allowing us to use land or the wider communities of the Ruapehu and Rangitikei Districts supporting our activities like the Around The Mountain Relay, Desert Fair or Desert Gala, we in Waiouru would find it difficult without the regional support we receive and appreciate. As the Commander of the Army Training Group I wish to acknowledge the help and support Waiouru has received from Mayor Garrick Workman and his Councillors throughout the year. We also continue to enjoy links with Taihape and the Rangitikei District and acknowledge the interest shown by Mayor John Wilson.
