Health food for thought

BY

SUE KUMEROA

APOSTOLIC CHURCH Wherever I look on the supermarket shelves I'm getting information on what to put into my body. High fibre, low fat, reduced sugar, no artificial flavourings or colourings, recommended daily allowance of something and all natural something else. Just as what we take into our body affects the body, so also what we take into our mind has an enormous effect on the mind. What are you feeding your mind on? Healthy food or junk food? Junk food for the mind

is so readily available. We can get it in the bookshops or video shops. Right there on the shelves with the health food, some of it appears deceptively healthy until the mind begins to receive and digest it. We can sit back in the comfort of our own living room, turn on TV and feed our minds without a thought as to whether or not it is healthy food. And how about gossip, malicious talk and criticism. Fed on any of that lately? Filling the mind with resentment, bitterness, jealousy, and unforgiveness, it's just like consuming vast quantities of poison.

Spare a thought for the health of ■ your mind. We'd never dream of feeding our bodies with the amount of junk, or with the poison that we feed our minds. Do we want our minds to grow old, wizened and bitter? How about putting your mind on a health food diet, beginning with some good healthy food from God's Word - "Fill your minds with those things that are good and deserve praise: things that are true, nobel, right, pure, lovely and honourable." (Philippians 4:8). Then watch to see the lifechanging, life-saving, life-enhancing results.
