Mtn roads works soon
Tenders are to be called for the work on widening of the Ohakune Mountain Road above the Hairpin. Survey and design work for the project is complete and the Department of Conservation has indicated approval of the work, the Waimarino Community Board heard last Thursday. The board heard that an analysis of the maintenance work needed at the Hairpin would be carried out, to find out if using concrete on the section of road would be cost-effective. (The road at that point often suffers from ice problems, causing traffic hold-ups in the busy ski season). Member Bill Peach suggested they investigate putting electric cables into the concrete at that section, to keep snow and ice off it.
