Meet the

Raetihi Service-Centre staff

MICHELLE FREDERICKSEN i WAS BORN and lived in Opunake on a sheep farm with my parents and two brothers untii they shifted to Raetihi in June 1978, where they bought their first sheep farm at Pukekaha, R.D.6, Raetihi. I boarded privately in Opunake for 1i years so I could complete my UE and Bursary. On January 1980 I started work for the NZPO in Raetihi as a clerk and was able to work my way to Postmistress/Manager with two promotions until its fateful closure on 19 May 1989. The Council took on the NZ Post Services as an agency basis on 22 May and I was employed by Council to carry on these services and also to learn Council work. Since then the Council

agencies have increased in Raetihi to include: Council, NZ Post, Trustbank (Raetihi and Ohakune accounts), M.O.T. and Housing Corporation Agencies. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 12 years I have been working, especially being able to meet, serve and help our customers and clients. I have been married for nearly six years to Brian Fredericksen. Brian is a registered plumber and is currently employed with Ohakune Engineering working as

a fitter welder. Our biggest challenge and joy was building our 1800 sq ft home from a kitset three years ago on our 11 acre lifestyle farm which we run 50 ewes on. We both enjoy being outdoors, trout fishing, surfcasting, rockhopping and the challenge of finishing our home, grounds and developing our farm. My hobbies also include: Stamp collecting, photography and a care and love for animals.

MAUREEN WORKMAN i WAS BORN in Raetihi and lived in Ohakune where I attended Ohakune Primary School and Ruapehu College. On leaving school I trained as a hairdresser in Palmerston North, then owned and operated my own hairdressing business in Ohakune for four years. After selling the salon I was employed as a saies assistant in the Raetihi Pharmacy until

my marriage to Garrick Workman. My husband and I then owned and operated the Raetihi book selling, stationery and jewellery business known as Boyds. In between times I was kept busy raising our two children Blair and Erin. I am now employed by the Ruapehu District Council as an Agency Clerk in the Raetihi Post Office, Trustbank and Council office. My interests include knitting, gardening and following the family with their sporting interests.
