Being prepared

THE CIVIL Defence organisation is preparing the District to cope in an emergency. To date, staff and volunteers have had training in their respective positions, assembly centres have been named, communication systems are in place and the public are becoming aware of their roles and responsibilities. A school programme has been completed throughout the primary schools within the District and local organisations have been prepared with emergency procedures. The council staff have been involved on two exercises and plans are under way for a major exercise in March 1992 which will be run by the Ministry of Civil Defence and will include all Area Headquarters as well.
