Army thanks the locals

BYJOHOWIE Colonel Clive Sinclair, the Commander, and the Officers of the Army Training Group in Waiouru hosted a cocktail party at the Officers Mess on 14 November. This annual event occurs at the end of the year to thank members of the local community for their assistance to the army. Drinks and finger foods were available from 6pm onwards. This provided the opportu-

nity for the invited civilians to meet some army personnel and their wives. Sixty-eight guests with partners were invited. They included: land owners and farm managers, the helicopter pilot, Ruapehu's Mayor, Serco's Manager, Legal Staff Officer for Army Training Group, Ruapehu College's Principal and Deputy, Waiouru Primary School's Headmaster, Taihape's coroner, Director of the

Turoa Ski Field, Chairman of the Waiouru Community Board, the local doctor, and neighbouring friends of the Army. During the evening Colonel Sinclair said that this occasion was an opportunity for the Army to show its appreciation for the assistance and cooperation given by the local. He said it was also "a good chance to have a Christmas drink with our neighbours."
