Nurses hostel may be sold
A tender for the Waimarino Nurses' Hostel, which is acceptable to the Manawatu Wanganui Area Health Board, has been received. Board general manager Maurice Sexton was not available for comment yesterday but the Bulletin believes the board is preparing to accept the offer.
Ruapehu mayor Garrick Workman said the board had promised to consult with the community before making a decision on the sale. He recently presented a petition to the board calling for the hostel to be retained, on behalf of a group of locals who want to retain the hostel, at least until the future of
the Waimarino Health Centre is known. If the health centre were to become a community trust, the hostel could be used in some way by the trust, the group felt. But the hostel would remain government property if a community trust were set up, Mr Sexton told Mr Workman.
