Sports all-sorts at Waiouru

BYJOHOWIE Waiouru, Ohakune, Raetihi, Rangataua, and Orautoha school children had lots of fun leaping, running and jumping through different activities last week. Waiouru hosted a tabloid sports day for the five, six, seven and eight year olds. There were 12 activities organised, with three teams in each activity, 12 children per team. Every team had a mixed-age group and spent 10 minutes at each activity. Some activities included; gum boot and ball throwing, hurdles, relay running, obstacle course, skipping, sprints and high jumping. Brian Holt, one of the organisers, said the emphasis was on team effort, not individual results. He said it was a day of fun, and hopes it will continue to be an annual event.
