Firm tests Ohakune Water

Last week's planned shut down of the Ohakune Water Supply was to allow the installation of a trial water treatment plant, by one of the four tenderers on the short-list for the project. The tender is to be let on a design-and-build basis, with the council specifying a quality of water at the end of the process. How the project is built is up to the contractor, within guide-lines set down by the council. The guide-lines iriclude a condition that it is to be an ultra-violet treatment system. The Bulletin was told that because of the conditions of the contract some of the tenderers wanted to carry out their own tests on the water supply.
