Army wish fulfilled

Young Nicholas Dodd from Whangarei spent the day in Waiouru on 13 November, fulfilling a wish as a part of the 'make-a-wish' scheme from Canteen, the Teenage Cancer Group. Nicholas, 13, his younger brother Christopher and his parents spent a full day experiencing anhy life. Nicholas said he had always wanted to be in the army. Over the years he had collected army

miniature soldiers and tanks. While in Waiouru he went to Helwan Camp to watch the Scorpions and armoured personnel carriers (APC's) rehearse on parade for part of the Cambrai celebrations. Nicholas took part in the roll past of armoured vehicles, and had a ride in a Scorpion. He was offered the opportunity to take a drive and to fire its gun. He was giveii army posters, stickers and a polished empty shell case from a Scorpion 76mm gun, which

was his prized possession. t Major Tony Connell, acting Commander of lst Armoured Group said it was a pleasure to fulfil this boy's wish. After lunch, Nicholas and his family spent the afternoon looking around the display in the Queen Elizabeth the Second Army Memorial Museum. As part of his trip he spent two nights at the Chateau Regency and a night at Manuel's in Taupo.
