Call for help to fight crime

A public meeting is to be held this Thursday to discuss the increased crime rate in Ohakune and Raetihi. The meeting is being called by Ruapehu Mayor Garrick Workman. Waimarino Police Sergeant Bob Evans will address the meeting. Mr Workman said if there was interest he would like to see a neighbourhood support system reestablished to cover the two towns, including residential, commercial, industrial and rural areas. "We are not looking for a vigilante group - we need to get together and help the police fight this crime problem," said Mr Workman.
