Ladies lurk near gardens!

Should you chance to see two ladies peering over your garden fences, pointing to this or that, and writing things down in little books don't ring the police or turn the dog loose! They are not planning to return in the dead of night to dig up your favourite shrubs but will be judging town gardens for this year's Ohakune Civic Pride Gardeners Awards. The judging will take place between 18-22 November inclusive and all gardens within the boundaries of the former Ohakune Borough are regarded as entrants. The judges will be looking for the gardens which appear the most pleasing as viewed from the road and points will be awarded for the layout

and design of the garden, general maintenance and tidiness, colour etc. Three awards of gift vouchers sponsored by the Ruapehu District Council will be made to the winning gardeners and in addition the overall winner will hold for one year the Civic Pride Garden Award cup sponsored by the Ohakune Garden circle who are organising this competition. "So come along gardeners oil your lawn mowers, tackle those weeds, and trim your edges and hedges. A little fertilizer to encourage those roses to bloom and your flower borders to give of their best and yours could well be the winning garden," urge the organisers.
