Slow start to recycling

It would appear that residents of Waiouru are not very keen on parting with their plastic rubbish for recycling. Saturday 19 October was the first day that the Army's Works Branch arranged to have a house to house verge collection of household plastics. But those who did make the effort to help collect recyclable items were disappointed at the response. "The Messes had responded well to the idea, with hundreds of milk containers collected, however very few resi-
dents of the housing area even bothered," said Pauline Murphy, overseer of the collection. Pauline is unsure as to the reason behind the poor response to the recycling but the Works Branch Team are prepared to do the collection a few more times, hoping that the idea of recycling old plastic containers will pick up. Failing that a central collection bin will be used within the housing area. The next dates set for the collection of milk containers and other household plastic are, 2 November and 16 November.
