NZ Winter Games soccer

On 28 September the Waiouru Soccer Club hosted the Winter Games Soccer Tournament.

Due to a lack of teams the medals were fought out between Waiouru and Ruapehu College. The

game was played in fine spirit with the slightly older Waiouru team starting with a hiss and a roar and they were unlucky not to go two goals up. The younger College boys, having no respect for their elders, went into the lead with two well taken goals. The Gold Medal was slipping

away when the College scored a fine goal to make it three goals to nil just before half time. With a ten-minute rest Waiouru managed to grab two goals back and all looked set for a Waiouru fight back, but the pace was starting to tell with the College team scoring three more goals before the final whistle.
