Health services available to Waimarino people now include: At the Health Centre Voluntary Support Groups: CAS, Cancer Support; Asthma Support; Red Cross; St John; Naturopathy; Speech Therapist; Health Watch Committee; Turoa First Aid Centre. From the Board (Wanganui - etc) ' Input from: diabetic educator, asthma educator, community educator drugs & alcohol, health education officer, community dietician. Community and Environmental Health Division: Medical officer of health, medical officer, community health doctor, health protection officers, vision & hearing testers, occupational health nurses, community health nurse adviser, dental services. Wanganui Base Hospital: medical, audiology, surgical, orthopaedic, paediatricians, geriatric, emergency, psychiatric, obstetric & gynaecology.
Ophthalmology, ENT, Laboratory, Radiography, dental, anaesthetic, orthotic, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, medical photographer, pharmacy, blood bank, ECG. Jubilee Hospital: geriatric. Lake Alice Hospital: psychiatric. Wanganui also provides commercial support services including maintenance, gardener, administration. Six community beds for: relative relief; sick elderly; hospice; short term observation; stabilization; non-specialist beds. Three maternity beds for: ante-natal care; post natal; delivery care. Ambulance service (24 hours, seven days) Physiotherapy (16 hrs/week) Radiology (4 hrs/wk) Staffed by: mid-wife/co-ordinator; staff nurse; 3 enrolled nurses (1 per shift); 1 ambulance officer; 2 cooks; 2 cleaners; 1 relieving cook/cleaner; 1 relief ambulance officer; 1 receptionist/typist/teleph onist.
Visiting medical officers (2 GPs) Visiting Specialists: medical, surgical, ENT, paediatric, obstetric gynaecological & psychiatric. In community, from the Health Centre Public Health Nurse for health education & promotion; school health; immunization; Well Women's clinic; District Nurse for:
meals on wheels; home help (interim); home nursing care. Community midwife: ante, post natal care in home; education; health promotion. Health Social Worker: education, advice, support. Maori Health Worker Support and advice. Dental Therapist: dental care for school & preschool, health education, health promotion. Heartbeat promotion for
school canteens. Visiting: diabetic, asthma, dietetic educators (monthly) Psychiatric district nurse (weekly) Other local services Ambulance volunteers; air ambulance; general practitioners and practice nurses; pharmacists; Plunket Services; home care; visiting school psychologist.
