Brains tested for gymnasts

Grey matter did sommersaults for the sake of local gymnasts last Friday night at the Ohakune Club. About 25 teams of four people took part in a 100-question quiz, with 'Just X' taking the top

place. The team, scormg 83 points, was Lou Most, Nigel Gunn, Katheryn Most and Rosalind Foster. Second was 'Gymnastic Maneouvres in the Dark' Bob & Eunice Tumateroa, Mark &

Wendy Hays. Placed third was 'Dumbos' - Marie Allerby, Grant Price, Elaine Goldfinch and Robert Milne. Although this team was put together just minutes before the competition,

with no training whatsoever, they gained an amazing 76.5 points. Always enter taining at the quiz are the howler answers, with some teams putting special effort into theirs. Some of these answers were: .

Zin Zan Hadley for the first man to represent New Zealand in cricket and rugby; who wrote "On the Beach"? - the Beach Boys, I Ma Pervert; What was Margaret Mitchell's best seller? - Joy of Sex; What is the Loire Valley famous for? - nude bungy jumping; What was Rikki Tikki Tavi? confused - a Maori daddy long legs; Who wrote Winnie the Pooh? - Marie Milne' s uncle in law; Who founded the Mongolian Empire? - Michael Jackson's chimp "Bubbles "; What do you call a group of flies? Aussies - zips on men's trousers - a bloody nuisance; Where would you see a fine lady upon a white horse, with rings on her fingers and bells on her toes? - The Ohakune Fire Station; Who said 'Give us the tools and we'll finish the job' - Benchmark - Home Brothers - Turoa Maintenance Crew - Santa's Little Helpers; How many horses in a polo team? - none because they can't swim. An upset in the event was the team that came last - which was 'Who Cares' and not the usual Fire Brigade team. The brigade boys and girls came in at seventh place, apparently without cheating.
