New Anglican minister introduced

The Reverend Bernard Cox is the new Anglican Minister for the Ruapehu Parish. The service for Reverend Cox's induction and installation took place on Wednesday 11 September at St. Mary's Church in Raetihi. At the beginning of the service the vicar from St. Mary's in Silverstream, the Reverend Bill Otter and his people's and Vicar's wardens, presented the Reverend Cox. During the service Reverend Cox was presented with his licence as vicar for the Ruapehu parish, by the Right Reverend Brian Carrell, Assistant Bishop of Wellington, on behalf of the most Reverend Brian Davis, Bishop of Wellington and Primate and Archbishop of New Zealand. The venerable George

Simpson, Archdeacon of Waitotara, also helped with the service. The induction is the first in 16 years, the last being the Reverend Bob Peck's induction in 1975. Reverend Peck retired in November 1990. The Reverend Cox and his wife Joy have come to the Waimarino from Silverstream where he has been on study leave and helping as honorary assistant priest at St. Mary's Silverstream where Reverend Bill Ot-

ter is the vicar. Reverend Otter used to be the vicar of Ruapehu between 1961 and 1964. Both Reverend Cox and Mrs Cox enjoy tramping and gardening.

Mrs Cox is a keen embroideress and is qualified with City Guild of London. They are both keen family people and now spend much time with their grandchildren.

Reverend Cox began his training for the ministry in Sydney in 1955 and he has been in the mjnistry since then including five and a half years in Auckland working as a counsellor at the

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Centre before going into Army Chaplaincy. He was Principal Chaplain for the Army at Trentham when he retired to take study leave in 1990.
