Misuse of document

Andrew Tunnicliffe, 23, unemployed ski instructor of Ohakune, pleaded guilty to five charges involving the illegal use of a Visa

credit card. Court heard how defendant, after finding a Visa card on Turoa skifield, had used it to obtain goods to the total value of $2,351 from 32 outlets in Auckland, Palmerston North and Taihape. Defendant had already paid part reparation leaving $1,515 still outstanding. In convicting defendant and imposing a 40hour community service, Judge Watson said defendant had already paid a heavy penalty in that not only has he lost his job as a ski instructor on Turoa but, with a convictiOn entered against his name, he would not be able to travel and work overseas

in certain countries. He was ordered to pay the balance of the reparation of $1515 at the rate of $20 per week. Counsel: Brian Mason
