Have your health say
On Wednesday evening 18 September the Waimarino Branch of Red Cross held its 12th Annual Meeting. After the normal reports and election of Officers, Terry Tapp and Ian Strachan spoke about the W aimarino Rescue Helicopter Trust. They described the past, present and possible future of this service. As part of the discussion which followed Dorothy Scarrow from
the Health Watch Committee and Mayor Garrick Workman described to those present how the submission for the health services in our district are to be made. Under the new Regional Health Organisation which was set up after the Budget this area, like many others must submit to the Minister of Health the health service needs of our community. Submissions are needed from us, the people of the Waimarino, on what we feel we need, they said. Red Cross is only one of many organisations being contacted for involvement in these submissions and the views of
all people are also to be involved. The Red Cross members pledged to help foster interest in the community and to support a public meeting to be held in October to discuss the health service needs of the Waimarino. It was stressed that only by people taking part in submissions will the true health needs of the community be made known to the Minister of Health. The Chairman, Nigel Buck, closed the meeting with the hope that the co-operation of the people of the Waimarino would lead to active involvement in the submissions on health service needs.
