Remanded in custody

Stephen Hoani Brown, 20, forestry worker of Ohakune was remanded in custody when he appeared on a total of 10 charges.

These included: Being a member of an unlawful assembly of people whose common purpose was to obtain liquor from Samuel's Restaurant in Ohakune, caused other people in the neighbourhood to fear on reasonable grounds, the threat of violence against property on 14 August; Threatened to injure Helen Mary Aitken with intent to frighten on 14 August; Threatened to kill Aran Brent Shivnan and Helen Mary Aitken on the same date; Intentionally damaged two plate glass windows the property of Aran Shivnan and Helen Aitken, proprietors of Samuel's Restaurant on the same date; Unlawfully got into a 1972 Bedford bus in

Railway Row, Ohakune, on the same date. All these changes were heard at last month's sitting of the Ohakune District Court on 15 August and defendant was released on bail. Since then and while free on bail a further five charges have been brought. They included: Breaking and entering the Ohakune premises of the Boarderline snowboard shop from which property valued at $4,000 was taken on 21 August; Converting a Holden Commodore car valued at $16,000 and causing $5,000 worth of damage when he crashed it into ^ tree on 25 August; Intentionally damaging a window valued at $700, the property of Dekker Machinery in Raetihi on 25 August; Stealing a car radio valued at $250 from the Holden Commodore on

25 August; Stealing a car battery valued at $120 from Peter Bishop in Rangataua on the night of 15 September. Judge Watson said that he was not prepared to allow defendant further bail and remanded him for a pre-sentence and reparation report to appear in the Wanganui District Court on 1 October.
