The Waiouru Primary School are holding a Desert Gala Day on 9 November 1991, to help the Primary School build up its capital reserves. Some of the objectives for their reserves
include purchasing new computers, covering the school pool, new library books and new furnishings. At the PTA committee meeting last month, the Board of Trustee Chairman Lt Col Martyn Dunne said "It is
xmportant that the school maintains a capital reserve so that standards of equipment and resources are guaranteed for students and teachers in the future." The Army's 1991 Desert Fair was cancelled
so the Gala day will give opportunities for fund raising and promotion for local community groups and small business enterprises said Mr Dunne. It is hoped the Gala will attract visitors from
all over the Central Plateau and from further afield. Gala committee member Mike Brown, said the response has been encouraging for securing a stall from surrounding districts. He has had enquiries from Auckland, Taupo, Wanganui, Taihape and Ohakune. There will be a wide variety of stalls selling arts and crafts, an assortment of food, white elephant, clothing, fashion, hobby and toy stalls will also be set up. Mr Brown said the day
promises to be action packed. "At this stage I can confirm entertainment from merry-go-rounds, noddy train rides, a mini circus and there will be a static demonstration of military vehicles, and a simulated rifle shoot for the children. There will also be quick-fire raffles and some children will be entertaining the crowd with class skits. A Waiouru Primary School Raffle is also underway," Mike said. "There are over $1,400 worth of
prizes. The tickets are sold at the school and at the different messes." For enquiries apply m writing to The Secretary, 1991 Desert Gala Committee, Waiouru Primary School, Queree Drive, Waiouru.
