Mt Road works delayed

Too much traffic and bad weather was given as the reason no work has been done on the very narrow stretch of the Ohakune Mountain Road, above the hairpin. Southern Ruapehu engineer Don Sattler told the Waimarino Community Board meeting last Thursday that Transit New Zealand had approved the work which would involve blasting away the rock face on the opposite side of the road to the steep drop-

off. Mr Sattler had said at two earlier meetings that the work would be done "as soon as possible" but said last Thursday that winter weather and the high traffic with the ski season meant it was impossible to start the work now. Asked if the section could be signposted, he said there were already two "road narrows" signs posted. He said he was to meet with Turoa Ski Resorts to discuss additional signs.
