Turoa meeting planned
• Last week I became concerned about the number of complaints that our Ski Shop wa^ receiving from customers of Turoa Skifields. In response, I wrote an open letter to the Turoa Management, calling on them to set up a public meeting to enlist the experience and knowledge of the people of Ohakune and to keep them informed about what is being done to improve the holiday experience of visitors to our town. As a result of this letter, a meeting was arranged, attended by Nancy Van der Laan and Grant McMasters from Turoa and Graeme Holland, Mike Wiggins and myself from Ohakune. Up till this time, I had not met Grant McMasters and did not realise that he was the Mountain Manager. I was favourably impressed by his desire to see an improvement in the communications between the businesses that make up the ski industry in Ohakune. One of our main concems has been that since Turoa closed the information office, ski shops have been forced to take over the public relations role (unpaid), but have received little information, (or recognition of the fact) from Turoa. Grant and Nancy have agreed on several steps needed to aid communications, including the calling of a public meeting in the near future to discuss how co-opera-tion between skifield and town can benefit everyone.
