Waiouru's population was increased two-fold over the weekend with the Cold Kiwi gathering at Six Cross, north of Waiouru. Generally we were pleased with the weekend and the behaviour of all the participants. There were only a few incidents we attended. • On Saturday night a 17 year old youth was rushed to hospital with a suspected drug overdose. His condition was not life-threatening and appeared to be a culmination of alcohol, marijuana and pills. Still, a lethal concoction that could have more serious results. • On the same night
at the Cold Kiwi venue, we investigated an alleged rape complaint, and also a complaint where a $20,000 Harley Davidson was stolen. The owner of this stolen Harley Davidson unfortunatbty^dicT not have any insurance. • Last Monday, a 19 year old local man was arrested for theft and he will be appearing in the Taihape District Court next month. • Last Tuesday, in the very early hours, Taupo Police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop and was chased south to Waiouru at speeds up to 180 kilometres an hour. Turangi Police were also involved in this pursuit.
Waiouru MOT, ourselves and the Military Police set up a road-block at the MOW hut and the stolen vehicle was eventually stopped there. Three occupants, all escapees from a boys home in Epuni were arrested. All three were aged 14 years. They have appeared in the Taupo District Court and will be dealt with by Youth Aid.
