Waiouru top in maths 'athletics'
BYJOHOWIE Local schools met last Thursday night to compete in a mathmatics competition. organised by John Laurenson, head of the Mathmatics Department at Ruapehu College. "Its a good way to get children to enjoy Maths and also for them to see the College", said John. Waiouru, Ohakune, Raetihi, National Park, Orautoha and Ngamatea each had teams from Standard 3 & 4, and Form 1 & 2. There were four children in each team, and each team had 20 questions. They had half an hour to answer as many questions as they could. Results were: Standard 3 & 4: ^Waiouru first equal with Orautoha Brain Stormers. Both teams got 16 right and passed on two. Third: Waiouru B: 13 right and passed on two. Form 1 & 2 First: Waiouru Sea Eagles, 15 right, passed on two. Second: Waiouru School Students: 13 right, passed on three. Third: Orautoha Mathecateers: They won a play-off with Ohakune Mathmagicians. • 15
