Rail group now incorporated

At last week's meeting of the Preservation of the Ohakune Railway Station (PORS) group, chairman Bob Norling

reported that local solicitor Brian Mason had drawn up a draft document in preparation for PORS to become an in-

corporated society. The proposed name for the society is 'Main Trunk Line Ohakune Inc' and members were asked to study the first draft of this document and report back with suggestions, amendments etc as soon as possible so that stationery can be printed and the society can operate and negotiate as an accredited business. The PORS group is currently an informal, ad-hoc group of local people with a common purpose in trying to preserve and restore something of Ohakune 's railway heritage but has no official recognition or negotiating power.. This. will be achieved when it becomes an incorporated society. Another item on last week's agenda was a suggestion that instead of attempting to establish an all-embracing railways memorabilia type of museum which is planned for the Ohakune

Junction area, the proposed museum should specialise in a particular 'theme' (such as railway signalling) so that 'live' as well as static displays can be featured. Members were asked to consider this proposal - which would concentrate the search and collection of railway artefacts in a singular and more practical way in view of the limited sp&ce* available for a general purpose museum - and report back at next week's meeting. PORS group secretary Graham Parker reported that he had received a letter from a former railway coach builder with 17 years experience saying that as he was currently unemployed, he was prepared to move to Ohakune to offer his help with handyman maintenance duties on railway equipment as well as caretaking duties.
