Workshops win at skill at Arms
BYJOHOWIE Several units from Waiouru entered teams to compete in the Skill at Arms' competition for the Command Trophy last Wednesday. This competition is
run in Waiouru every year. The teams are c a 1 1 e d s e c t i o n s , comprising ten men, who must complete four stages of the course. The sections were assessed in several ways
including an inspection of clothing and equipment, weapons and accessories. The competition included a 6km run, the confidence course and a run to Taylor Range. The confidence course was a timed circuit with bonus points and penalties being applied to various exercises during the circuit. All designated obstacles must be negotiated by all section members. The obstacles were: the low wall, gate vault, ramp, six foot wall, nine foot jump, gate vault, rope swing, flying fox, low wire entanglement, incline six foot wall, stepping stones, monkey bars, twelve foot wall, cat walk, fence, high scramble net, burma bridge, low scramble nets, trenches and creek walk. The next stage was the 'falling plate shoot'. The section was required to shoot down ten metal plates and engaged a head size target in a minimum amount of time. The final stage was the final inspection. This was to ensure all the equipment listed in the rules were carried throughout the competiTurnpage 5
