Ruapehu writer honoured
Ruapehu writer William Taylor has won this year's Esther Glen Award for his hook "Agnes the Sheep". The award was presented recently at a function at Hamilton, attended by 110 people. Tessa Duder, well-known children' s author, presented the awards. The choice for the national award was unanimous among judges who • described the work as "a delightful and extremely humourous tale which is told with consummate skill."
"Outstandingly successful humour", "excellent characterisation" and "a convincing small town New Zealand setting" were all singled out for comment by the panel. The judges were
particularly impressed by the economy of Taylor's prose which "in no way detracted from the detail of a well-paced story that is full of action, fun and excitemcnt".
