Badminton tournament success

by

ELAYNE

Weller.

Ohakune played host to badminton players of the central North Island. August 2 and 3. saw some top class badminton being played in all grades. The tournament saw players from Palmerston North , Wanganui, Taihape, Taumaranui, Waiouru and Ohakune, playing Grades A reserve, B, C, and D. The tournament started Friday night with A reserve and B grade players starting out with singles games. Some hard-fought games were contested, with some top class badminton players providing entertainment. With some games taking up to 45 minutes to complete there were a lot of aching bodies. Saturday morning saw everyone back again to watch C and D grades singles

games. Players in C and D grades had some hardfought games to the bitter end. These players are proving to us all that they are soon going to be a force to reckon with in the not too distant future. Doubles and mixed doubles games followed with some pairs showing that two people together on the court are more lethal than one. Along with the aches, pains, blisters and sweaty bodies, some top class badminton was played and enjoyed. A reserve and B grade Mens singles finals later in the afternoon were well battled out and were both nailbiting games to the bitter end. Badminton in the area is growing with a lot of members showing they have the potential to go a long way. Club nights on Mon-

days are at 7pm in the Ruapehu College and Community Gymnasium. All new members are most welcome. Tournament results.
