Waimarino Rugby League

BY

CRASH

TACKLE

Waimarino knew they had to win on Saturday to secure a berth in the Top Four of the Wanganui-Man-awatu senior grade competition. With that in mind the guys who took to the field com-

mitted themselves to the task. The first try was scored by Trevor Edmond after some good lead-up work. Nigel Ruki got into the action with a good try after George Hinana ran onto a good pass from Riwaru Tihema. Gerard

Hipango, who ran straight and hard all day, showed his strength and skill by scoring Waimarino's third try. Kelvin Edmond's playing on the win beat the last line of defence again to score after more good lead-up work from

the rest of the team. He converted a try to make the score 20-0 after only 25 minutes. Woodville got themselves in the scoring after a feast of possession, getting a soft try handy to the posts. The score at half-time, 20-6. The second half saw a

more even tussle, with each team playing good sets of six tackles. It took 20 minutes for any team to score. The next try went to Dean Hiroti, who with hard running crashed over in a tackle to score. Pierre Todd picked up a lucky try after Jason Hearnes showed some good kicking and chasing skills. Woodville showed deterqiination throughout and came back to score the final try in the last minute. Jerry Henare and Jason Taiaroa put in some good hard yards to set a good foundation for Waimarino's classy backs. Waimarino plays Fielding this week who are currently seated third. A win for Waimarino over Fielding will put them in third position.
