Clean water this summer
The dilemma of ihe Ohakune Water Treatment System and carrot washers surfaced again last week, when the
community board heard that while the treated water supply would be of value to the washers, if the metered water is
priced too high they would be better off using private supply systems. These major commercial users opting out of the system would have an impact of the design of the plant and reservoir and the overall cost per cubic metre of water production, the board was informed. Ruapehu mayor Carrick Workman said there was to be another meeting with the growers to discuss the issue. Mr Workman said the council should know about a week after the Tongariro National Park
Board's September meeting if the TNPB approved of the siting of the reservoir and treatment plant at the Mangawhero Camp area, within the Park's boundaries.
"We are still on track for starting work this summer," he said. Asked about Health Department subsidies, Mr Workman said the council had "missed the bus".
