Daybreaker rally

BYJOANNA SAUNDERS The Manawatu and Taihape Car Clubs are running the annual Daybreaker Rally, which starts in Palmerston North at midnight on Friday 9 August. This event is the fourth round in the National Championships and a field of 74 teams is expected. Three teams competing are from the Waimarino Area. From Ohakune Alan and Graham Murdie (Starlet) who are currently placed 66th, from Taihape David Hintz and Dean

Curtis (Escort) currently placed 54th, and also from Taihape, Ross Martin and Ross Kelly (Mazda) currently placed 50th. Many stages of the Daybreaker Rally run through Koeke and Paranui Roads (near Mataroa). Stage six runs through Ridge Road North (Off Pukenaua Rd) with the first car expected at 7.30am. Stage seven runs through ATG Waiouru and is closed to the public. Stage eight runs thr ou gh Moawhango Valley Road, the first car is expected at 9.53am. The

rally then heads over the Gentle Annie and back through Ruru Road in Taihape and the first car is expected there at 1.21pm. All the roads to be used will be closed for public use at least one hour before the start of each stage. The current leaders are Possum Bourne (Subaru), Neil Allport (Mazda), Brian Stokes (Sierra Cosworth), Joe McAndrew (Mazda) and Greg Taylor (Mazda).
