Waimarino in it's first game of the 3rd and final round put in a solid performance to beat a bigger and experienced Tainui team from Palmerston North. Waimarino with the bare 13 players were underdog's, they tackled themselves to an almost standstill continually holding them out. George Hinana Jr. opened the scoring with a good solid run. He also had a hand in the next try putting Sony Metekingi in at the corner. Kerry Reuben scored his first try of the season after running on to a good line of defence with him.

pass and taking the last Jason Heare's got into the action with a good try after starting it inside his own 22 year line yard. Breaking two tackle's he found support who carried on the movement eventually ending up in Jason's hand's who had to shrug off another tackle to score the try of the game. Tainui came back before half time with a soft try.The score was 18-4 at the break. The second half saw Tainui come out fired up. Waimarino became unsettled and lack of experience in the line up saw them kicking possession away early in the tackle count. They also helped them by hanging off the tackles and allowed their big backs to run. It was some good cover tacking that stopped Tainui scoring as much as what they could have. They scored. three second half tries to put them right back in the game, but Waimarino sealed the game with a well worked try to Nigel Ruki who capped off a solid performance. Final score 24-16. Waimarino have to pick up their commitment more going into the final and decisive round and stay in contact with the top four to make the playoffs.
