New minister for Anglicans
The big church news this week is that the Ruapehu Parish will have a new vicar shortly, by which time the area will have been without a full time vicar for about 14 months. Reverend Bernie Cox and his wife Joy, arrive in September and he is to be inducted as vicar on Wednesday 11 September 1991 at 7pm at St Mary's Church Raetihi when Bishop Brian Carrell will take the service. The Anglican Vicarage is having a face lift which should make it a more comfortable home and it is hoped it will be complete before Bernie and Joy move in. Mrs Pat Olds, the church wardens and congregation have done a good job holding services during this time with help from the Reverend Bob Peck when he has been home. Some time ago Pat's name was put forward to the Bishop for consideration for ordination and
parishioners are delighted she has been accepted and over the next four years will work towards this through correspondence. The weekend of 26 July will bring another visit from a team of Church Army personnel lead by Peter Alfrey and a full programme has been organised. Everyone is welcome to attend any of the activities and fishing (Ref. Mathew 4 v 19-20) invitations have already been distributed to parishioners and other interested people. Activities include church services, a coffee morning with video and family evenings. Please phone Pat 54413 day or 54142 evenings for further details. A new idea is a progressive church service starting at St John's Ohakune at 9am and ending at St Mary's Raetihi followed by morning coffee. The service may be attended in its entirety or joined and left at any point - see you there.
