NZ Winter Games programme released
The programme of events for the 1991 New Zealand Winter Games was released on Saturday, with events split into two parts - the Mt Ruapehu Winter Festival events and the winter games events.
Sports included in the games cover a wide range of disciplines both alpine and otherwise. First on the list of the alpine events is the Mitsubishi Motors National Open New Zealand Championship slalom and giant slalom event at Whakapapa, while
badminton features first on the off-mountain calendar. "Whether you are a keen competitor, a relaxed 'recreationalist' or a fun-seeking spectator you will, as a visitor to the Ruapehu region, be assured of a warm and memorable welcome to
the first New Zealand Winter Games and the Mt Ruapehu Winter Festival," says games director Andreas Hefti in his introduction to the programme. The winter festival programme starts with the New Zealand Winter Games opening cere-

"This festival programme of social, leisure and entertainment activities has been designed to coincide with and complement the more vigorous and competitive activities associated with the various New Zealand Winter Games sporting codes," states the programme.
