Japanese student helps out

Takane Kamitawa, a Japanese volunteer teacher's aid from Yokohama, has spent the last two weeks at Waiouru Primary School. Takane is being hosted by an Ohakune family and will spend nine months in New Zealand in this area. She will spend time in Rangataua, Raetihi and Ruapehu schools and kindergartens. Takane is a University graduate and wanted experience in New Zealand with children and school life. The International Intership Program in conjunction with the Education Department organised the work experience for her here.

She teaches the Japanese language and has a slide presentation to show different aspects of her culture to our school children. Takane said there are several differences in Japanese schools, they have many more pupils, are highly competitive, have more academic subjects to study and are not as relaxed in behaviour as our pupils. She is enjoying New Zealand and hopes her English will improve while she is here.
