Fire calls

Raetihi firemen were called to a property fire on the Parapara Highway at 3.15am on 22 June. A fire had started between the open fire chimney of the house and the wall. Fire chief Alec Weir said the occupants were very lucky to smell the smoke and raise the alarm, otherwise a major fire could have resulted. Very little damage was done to the old farm house. Thursday last week the brigade was called to clean up a fuel and oil spill at the Makaranui Bridge after a car accident. And on 29 June, 2.44pm the brigade attended a chimney fire in King St. No damage was suffered by the house.
