The new board would contain four elected Waimarino ward members, three Waiouru ward members, two appointed Waimarino members and one appointed Waiouru member making a total of 10. This structure would meet the population/representation ratios required by law, depending on the results of the latest census. Mr Houston told the Waimarino Community Board that Waiouru's business did not warrant meetings every month and that this year two had been cancelled. One board would ensure that Waiouru repre-
sentatives would meet monthly. Also, council would save money in meeting fees and support. Cr Ellen Gould said she knew nothing of Waiouru issues and felt if
they met together it would be a way to become aware of their concerns. She felt the concept was very positive and a move in the right direction. Waiouru board members expressed concern
at the reduction of Waiouru representative numbers under the proposal. "The Waiouru board's earlier resolution to 'continue with the present Ward status but desired to meet in
conjunction with the Waim ar ino W ard' w as derailed by the Council's pr opo sal to accept less than half the present number of elected members," said Waiouru board chairman Bobby Vine.
