The main issue arising at last Mondays Junior Council meeting was a rundown on the organisation of the New Zealand Winter Games given by guest
speaker, Mr Andreas Hefti. Mr Hefti described to the Council, the types of Alpine and associated events occurring in and around Ohakune over the three weeks from September
to October. Mr Hefti then put forward an invitation to the Council to contribute to the games, perhaps by organising an event, or creating an item for the opening ceremony.
The mayor, Mr Garrick Workman, commented on how lucky the Junior Council is, as no other council has the opportunity to be included in such an event. Further discussion on the games will be held at future meetings. Amo'ng other matters arising at the meeting, was the adoption of the standing orders, which the Junior Council must abide by. Also discussed, was the upcoming trip to meet the Ruapehu North Junior Council. This trip will take the form of a day
trip, where the South Junior Councillors travel to Taumarunui to take part in organised activities with the North Councillors. Under General business, the idea put forward by Councillor Perera to create a survey for the youth of this area, was discussed. Councillor Perera suggested that the survey would be circtilated to all schools.basically asking what the youth in the community wants to see happening, over matters such as recycling and entertainment.
