Dr Beco visits

Dr Beco visited the Waimarino Health Centre on Monday 13 May to meet children with asthma. Dr Beco is to asthmatics what Ronald McDonald is to McDonalds. Children with asthma may join the Dr Beco Club and receive games and gifts designed to encourage them to use their medication properly. The 25 children enjoyed playing games designed to show different techniques of blowing and sucking for their inhalers. "The visit was a great success and the children who attended benefited greatly from it," said Barbara Luff, local asthma support spokesperson. The visit was organised by Maureen Hall, the asthma educator with help from Helen Pocknall Public Health Nurse and the Health Watch committee. The Health Watch committee provided a snack lunch for the children. The asthma support group meets every two months at the Health Centre and all are welcome. For further information contact Barbara Luff.
