Electricity tranformers on Mt Ruapehu have a tough life it seems. While a heavy lift helicopter was available recently King Country Energy staff took the opportunity to change a large tranformer on Hut Flat and were surprised at the way it had deterio-

rated in a very short time. Chief engineer Colin Martin told the May meeting that the transformer was originally installed as part of the 1987 centennial celebrations but, on inspection, was found to have wear normally expected after 15-20 years.
