Smoke free sponsors Mountains to Sea
The Lifespan Mountains to Sea, New Zealand's leading threeday multi sports event, has gained a major sponsor. The Health Sponsorship Council, leaders of New Zealand's Lifespan Smokefree sponsorship campaign, has taken the principal role in supporting the extended triathlon. This is the first major outdoor recreation event to be sponsored by the Council under the Lifespan logo.
The Health Sponsorship Council intends to expand its sponsorship of recreational activities and a long term association with the Lifespan Mountains to Sea is seen as the first step. "The image and high profile of the Lifespan Mountains to sea and other similar events fits very well with our healthy lifestyle message," said Dave Allan, sponsorship manager for the Council. This is the third year
the Labour weeKena multisports event has been held. Competitors run, cycle and kayak 290 kms from 1500 metres above sea level on Mt. Ruapehu, via the Wanganui river to a beach near the city of Wanganui. Teams of two or three individuals enter. Dave Bamford, Race Director, expects the 220 available entries to be filled rapidly. "The event has established a reputation as having an exciting and competitive nature, while still being a good social weekend in a very scenic part of New Zealand. We've already been swamped by interested athletes," he said. Bamford expects entries to be filled within the next few weeks. Over 750 people will be involved in total, including competitors, supporters and volunteers.
