Seoul shooter returns

Waimarino shooter Phil Garland returned from Seoul on Thursday where he was taking part in the 1991 UIT Seoul World Cup Competition. The competition was run over two days and was extremely well organised. There were police escorts to take the shooters to and from competition. Mr Garland along with six other shooters and a manager went to Seoul to try to qualify for the 1992 Olympics. Mr Garland was unsuccessful in his attempt to qualify. Of the shooters who

went only one Tim Dodds from the South Island managed to reach the qualifying standard. Four of the shooters are shooting skeet, two trench and one running boar. Mr Garland is a skeet shooter. There are only six in New Zealand with the possibility of qualifying

for the Olympics. This can only be done at an international competition. Mr Garland hopes to shoot at international competitions in Christchurch and Waitamata to qualify for the UIT World Championship in Perth in November.
