Camp lease

An offer to take on a lease for the Ohakune Camping Ground should be accepted by the district council. That is the recommendation to the council from the Waimarino

Community Board from their last meeting. Present manager Noel Shepherd put forward a proposal to lease the camp ground, saying there are many ways the camp could be improved but that he was not prepared to put his own money into doing it without some long term contract. "My idea was that, instead of you paying me to run the camp, 1*11 pay you," said Mr Shepherd. "I'm raising a loan to pay for improvements. I can make it profitable for myself but I'm not prepared to do it without suitable tenure." The board decided to recommend Mr Shepherd's offer be accepted, saying he was doing a good job and he was a local.
