School runs canteen for health & funds

BY

BEN

MAZEY

Ohakune Primary School's canteen was open for the first time on 26 April and the response from the children was really good because lots of people bought their lunch that day. The food was freshly cooked and very nice and

it was healthy as well. The menu has the approval of the National Heart Foundation as being healthy. Foods available at the canteen include; chocolate milk, chicken burgers, muffins, chicken nuggets, corn on the cob, fresh fruit, nuts and

raisins, popcorn. There was a competition held to choose names for some of these foods. The winners of the competition were Ashantha Perera and Brad Nelson. The canteen will be open every Friday at Ohakune Primary School with all money made going back to the school. The Canteen Committee is going to try to open the canteen two days a week next term. Thanks have been expressed to the parents who have volunteered to help in the canteen and also to New World Supermarket, Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, and the Ohakune Police in helping with equipment and goods for the canteen.
