Winter Games progamme near to being finalised

With only a week to go before details have to be finalised for the New Zealand Winter Games programme the following events have been confirmed for the three weeks between 15 September and 5 October. Each centre has been given the opportunity of participating in 16 different non-alpine winter sports including; badminton, basketball, cycling, darts, fun runs, golf, multi-sport, mountain bike, netball, rollerblading, rugby, snooker, soccer, squash, swimming and triathlon. Ohakune; Basketball (21-22 Sept), cycling (15 Sept), fun runs (29 Sept and 5 Oct), golf (26-27 and 28 Sept), multi-sport (5 Oct), mountain bike (26-28 Sept), netball (20-22 Sept), rollerblading (2022 Sept), rugby (27-29 Sept) and triathlon (4 Oct). Raetihi Fun runs (15 Sept), squash (4 Oct). N ational Park /Chateau; Cycling (16 Sept), golf (29 Sept). Turangi; Darts (3-5 Oct), fun runs (29 Sept), netball (27-29 Sept), rugby (21-22 Sept), snooker (1-5 Oct), squash (27-29 Sept). Taumarunui; badminton (20-23 Sept), Darts (25-27 Sept), Fun runs (28 Sept), golf (1920 Sept), mountain bike (21 Sept), netball (4-5 Oct), rugby (4 -5 Oct), snooker 24-29 Sept),

Swimming (3-4 Oct). Waiouru; badminton (21-22 Sept), fun runs (21 Sept), golf (21 Sept), Soccer (28-29 Sept) The following NZ winter Games Alpine events will be held on Mt Ruapehu. Dates are variable dependant on weather/snow conditions. Whakapapa; NZWG Mitsubishi Motors Open/NZ National Championships (FIS) 16-19 Sept, NZWG International Masters ski race (25 Sept), NZWG Masters Celebrity ski race (28 Sept), NZWG Inter-sec-ondary school and college ski competition (23-25 Sept) Turoa; NZWG International snowboarding events (30 Sept - 2 Oct) NZWG International ski freestyle events (3-4 Oct), NZWG International triathlon. Other alpine events on Mt Ruapehu; NZWG International speed skiing on glacier speed track (17-21 Sept), NZWG 'Over the Top" Ironman traverse (21-22 Sept), NZWG International rock climbing competition (28-29 Sept). Any last minute applications to be included in the New Zealand Winter Games official programme need to be with the NZWG head office in Ohakune (54 Clyde Street, Phone 0658 58 427) before 15 May, say organisers.
