Waimarino Anzacs remembered

Raetihi RSA members were pleased with the support at the early morning Anzac service. Although there was a small number of returned servicemen there were more children and young people present than in the past few years. A large contingent from the army and Raetihi and Ohakune Fire Brigades attended the service at the Waimarino Club as well as representatives from scouts, brownies and girl guides. The religious service was conducted by Peter Barnes and Doug Eves with Major Nicholson, from Waiouru Military Camp, and Garrick Workman, Ruapehu District Council's mayor, as guest speakers. Everyone went by car to the cemeteries as the march had been cancelled because of the bad weather. After the visit to the cemeteries everyone returned to the

Waimarino Club for coffee and rum. The Ohakune service was held at 9.30am, timed just right to avoid the day's showers. Ru-

apehu Cubs and Scouts, a large contingent from HMNZS Irirangi and the Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade marched with the RSA men.
