Raetihi tennis club season winds up
! The Raetihi Tennis Club held the official closing of its season at the Raetihi Cosmopolitan Club on Saturday 13 April, with prizegiving of Championship trophies and Twilight Tennis t Teams Championship. Approximately 12 teams were involved in the Twilight Teams Tennis and this resulted in games having to be played on two nights
each week. Unfortunately some teams dropped out in the second round after Christmas but the stalwarts went on to finish the series. Winners of the A grade were No Stars and B grade Racket Quellers. Each team of four fought keenly for their points and some outstanding tennis resulted. Individual winners in the club championship were: Mens singles -
Willie Wilson, Ladies singles - Margaret Fowlie, Mens doubles - Willie Wilson and Justin King, Ladies doubles - Sharon and Sarina Marumaru. Once again the club had good membership in both the juniors and seniors and the club is looking forward to the new season as everyone has indicated that they are anxious to join again and compete in the teams tennis.
Nancy Winter once again, with help from other members and a few parents coached the junior tennis players. The Tennis Club extends thanks to the sponsors of the teams tennis for their generous donations and in particular Ronnie Jensen who, for the second year running was most generous to the Club. Thanks also went to Bucks Drapery, Waimarino Wines and
Bowaters Saddlery. Tennis for the season wound up on Sunday 14 April with a fun day and novelty dress. Due to the beautiful day five ladies turned up in various styles and colours of nightwear (must be something about these tennis ladies to all want to wear nighties! !!). Secretary and patron Faith arrived in a lovely sheer long nightgown and as she got warmed up on the court removed it and her lovely brown curly wig, to display a corset. When she became hotter she removed the corset to display bright green and pink neon tight pants and T shirt. However the
corset was not wasted as Willie arrived not in fancy dress so he was
given the corset and wig to wear before he could play.
